Honda WN7 Electric Motorcycle Patented in India, Coming With Premium Futuristic Design
Honda has patented the premium WN7 electric motorcycle in India after its global debut in 2025. The sports EV features a 9.3kWh battery, 130km range, 67.5bhp motor, TFT display, and fast charging support. Despite the patent filing and international design recognition, the high-end electric motorcycle is unlikely to launch in India soon.
Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has patented the premium WN7 electric motorcycle in the country, following the model’s international debut in late 2025. The WN7, which serves as Honda’s first-ever sports electric motorcycle, is the production-ready version of the EV Fun concept first showcased in November 2024. While the patent filing has sparked speculation regarding a potential entry into the Indian premium EV space, industry analysts suggest the move may primarily be an exercise in protecting the brand's intellectual property.
The motorcycle arrives with significant international acclaim, having secured the Gold Award at the iF Design Award 2026. This recognition marks a first for a Honda product and highlights the brand's shift toward a new design language for its electric portfolio. The patenting of the WN7 comes at a time when Honda is re-evaluating its electric ambitions in India, following the earlier withdrawal of models such as the Activa E and QC1. Honda WN7 Design and Features
The Honda WN7 features a minimalist, futuristic design characterised by a robotic fascia and a sleek "fuel tank" silhouette created by a single-piece cover over the frame and battery. Its lighting setup includes a wide LED daytime running light (DRL) paired with vertically arranged headlights. The motorcycle is built with a monocoque subframe and a distinctive single-sided swingarm, which houses the rear disc brake and the drive from the mid-mounted motor for a clean aesthetic.
Aimed at providing a premium user experience, the WN7 is equipped with:
- A 5-inch TFT instrument cluster with integrated connectivity features.
- Wide handlebars fitted with circular bar-end mirrors.
- A total kerb weight of 217 kg.
- A single-piece seat designed for an ergonomic riding position.
- Honda WN7 Specifications and Performance
The "WN7" nomenclature reflects the bike's development concept: "W" stands for "Be The Wind," "N" denotes its "naked" streetfighter styling, and "7" represents its performance category. The motorcycle is powered by a mid-mounted electric motor delivering 50.4 kW (67.5 bhp) of peak power and 100 Nm of torque. This output is intended to provide a riding experience comparable to a traditional 600cc internal combustion engine motorcycle.
Energy is supplied by a 9.3 kWh battery pack, which offers an estimated range of 130 km on a single charge. For convenience, the WN7 supports fast charging via a CCS2 port, capable of replenishing the battery from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. Honda WN7 Price and Market Availability
In the United Kingdom, the Honda WN7 is currently on sale with a starting price of GBP 12,999 (approximately INR 16.74 lakh). Despite the recent patent filing in India, a domestic launch remains unlikely in the near future due to the high price point and the current state of premium electric motorcycle infrastructure. In contrast, other recently patented models like the Honda Airblade are considered to have a higher probability of reaching Indian showrooms.
