Yamaha Motor India is reportedly preparing to expand its portfolio with the launch of a new entry-level sports bike, the YZF-R2, scheduled for 27 August 2026. Industry speculation suggests that the company has already filed a trademark application for the YZF-R2 name within the Indian market.

As per a report by ETV Bharat, the manufacturer has distributed media invitations for an event on 27 August, which is widely anticipated to be the official unveiling of the new motorcycle. If the launch proceeds as expected, the YZF-R2 will be manufactured at Yamaha’s Chennai facility, with plans for the model to be exported to international markets. Oben Rorr Evo Deliveries Begin After 25,000 Bookings.

YZF-R2 Engineering and Expected Specifications

Internally codenamed '070', the YZF-R2 is expected to share its platform with the existing R15 V4, incorporating the same Deltabox frame known for its rigidity and handling characteristics. The motorcycle is anticipated to feature upside-down (USD) forks at the front and a linked-type monocross suspension system at the rear. Braking duties are likely to be handled by disc brakes at both ends, supported by a dual-channel ABS system.

While official engine specifications remain unconfirmed, industry reports suggest the bike will be powered by a 200cc single-cylinder engine, expected to deliver approximately 24-25 PS and 19 Nm of torque. This configuration is aimed at maintaining competitive production costs for the mass market while offering performance comparable to current segment leaders like the KTM RC 200 and the Hero Karizma XMR 210.

YZF-R2 Advanced Features and Technology

The YZF-R2 is expected to include a suite of premium features, such as Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) to enhance low-RPM torque. Additional technology is likely to include traction control, a quick shifter, and an assist and slipper clutch. Safety provisions may also feature a side-stand engine cut-off switch and wide radial rear tyres. Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally Price in India, Specifications and Features.

On the digital front, the motorcycle is expected to house a full-colour TFT instrument console. Through the Y-Connect app, riders may gain access to connected features, including call and message notifications, fuel consumption statistics, maintenance alerts, and navigation-related data.
