Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers can track the status of their provident fund (PF), pension and transfer claims online. While checking a claim, members often come across messages such as 'Under Process', 'Settled' or 'Pending at Employer', leaving many unsure about what they actually mean and how long it may take to receive the money. Recent changes to EPFO's claim settlement process have also introduced faster timelines for eligible claims, making it important for members to understand each status update.
What Different EPFO Claim Status Messages Mean
When a member files an online claim, the first status usually displayed is 'Claim Submitted at Portal', which indicates that the application has been successfully received by EPFO and is awaiting processing.
If the status changes to 'Pending at Employer', it means the employer has not yet completed the required verification or digital approval. The claim cannot move forward until this step is completed. EPFO Fast-Tracks PF Withdrawals, Aims To Settle Claims Within 24–48 Hours.
A status of 'Under Process' indicates that EPFO officials are verifying the application, KYC details and supporting records before approving the claim.
Once the claim is approved, the status changes to 'Settled', meaning EPFO has processed the claim and initiated payment to the member's registered bank account. In most cases, the credited amount reaches the bank within one to three working days, although occasional banking delays may occur. If a claim shows 'Rejected', members should check the remarks section on the portal to understand the reason before submitting a fresh application, if required.
How Long Does EPFO Take to Settle Claims?
Under EPFO's latest reforms, eligible claims with complete KYC details may be settled within three days through the auto-settlement system. Claims requiring manual verification or additional checks can take longer. Separately, the Employees' Provident Funds Scheme, 2026 prescribes a 20-day deadline for settlement of provident fund, pension and insurance claims. Officials responsible for unjustified delays beyond this period may face penal interest of 12% per annum. EPFO: How To Check Old and New Claims, Access Service History on Revamped Portal.
How Members Can Track Their Claim
EPFO members can check their claim status through the EPFO member portal, the UMANG mobile app, SMS and missed call services linked to their Universal Account Number (UAN). The portal displays details such as the claim type, tracking ID and current processing status.
What To Do If Your Claim Is Delayed
If the claim remains pending beyond the prescribed timeline, members should first verify that their Aadhaar, PAN, bank account and other KYC details are correctly linked to their UAN. If the delay continues or the payment is not received after the claim is marked as settled, members can raise a grievance through EPFO's grievance redressal system for further assistance.
