The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has developed a new Aadhaar-integrated digital platform to help salaried employees locate, transfer, and consolidate forgotten or inoperative Provident Fund (PF) accounts. Details of the system were disclosed by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje in a written response to the Lok Sabha on July 27, 2026. The online tool addresses a long-standing issue where job switches resulted in scattered, idle retirement savings.

Key Features of the E-Portal

The platform serves as a direct digital channel for subscribers seeking to track down legacy PF accounts. By utilizing Aadhaar-based identity verification, members can search for unlinked or dormant account balances without visiting physical EPFO branch offices or relying on former employers for attestation. New EPFO Rule: PF and Pension Claims Must Be Settled in 20 Days, Here’s How To Act on Delays.

Through the platform, users can:

  • Trace Inoperative Accounts: Identify old accounts linked to past employments that have stopped receiving fresh contributions.

  • Initiate Online Transfers: Consolidate accumulated balances directly into an active Universal Account Number (UAN).

  • File Settlement Claims: Submit requests for payout on eligible legacy accounts where transfer is not applicable.

How the System Streamlines Transfers

When employees change jobs without transferring their PF balances, the inactive accounts are categorized as inoperative after three years of non-contribution. Previously, recovering these funds required navigating manual paperwork, locating old salary slips, or requesting employer attestations - processes that often stalled if the previous company shut down or changed management. EPFO: How Members Can Track PF and Pension Claim Status Using UAN, UMANG and SMS.

The new portal simplifies this by using Aadhaar as a central identifier. Once a member completes biometric or OTP-based authentication, the system scans EPFO records to match and present associated PF account numbers. Members can then file an online transfer claim using Form 13 to merge those balances under their single active UAN.

Prerequisites for Account Holders

To use the new features, subscribers must ensure their profile information is fully updated on the EPFO Member Portal. Essential requirements include:

  1. An active UAN registered with a verified mobile number.

  2. Complete KYC seeding, including verified Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account details.

  3. Correct "Date of Exit" entries updated by previous employers for past jobs.

Without complete Aadhaar seeding and accurate employment exit dates, automatic matching and online transfer requests may encounter processing delays or rejections.

Existing Limitations and Next Steps

While the tool streamlines recovery for members with traceable employment records, challenges remain for individuals who cannot recall their previous member IDs or past employer details. The Labour Ministry noted that there is currently no separate policy proposal to auto-retrieve accounts where basic identifier information is missing. In such cases, subscribers must still coordinate directly with regional EPFO offices or past employers to establish account ownership.

Subscribers are advised to log into the official EPFO Member e-Sewa portal to review their active KYC status and confirm that all past service records are linked under a single UAN.
