The State Bank of India (SBI) has advised customers to wrap up branch-dependent banking tasks ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to 30.
Strike Timeline and Context

Because September 26 and 27 fall on a weekend, the late-September walkout creates a potential five-day stretch of limited physical branch availability.
Expected Branch Disruptions and Services
In-person services requiring staff assistance, physical document verification, or specialised branch clearance may see slowdowns or pauses depending on local union participation levels. SBI stated it is deploying mitigation measures to keep core operations functional, though branch-dependent workflows remain vulnerable.
Alternative Banking Channels
To maintain continuity, SBI recommends utilising non-branch infrastructure:
- Cash Access: ATMs and Automated Deposit and Withdrawal Machines (ADWMs).
- Assisted Banking: Customer Service Points (CSPs) for designated services.
- Digital Platforms: Internet banking, mobile banking, YONO, and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for routine fund transfers and payments.
Physical documentation, complex clearing processes, and select cheque-related operations cannot be processed digitally and may face delays during the strike window.
