Stock Market Holiday Today, October 2, for Gandhi Jayanti 2026? Know If BSE and NSE Are Open

The Indian stock market will remain closed today, October 2, on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. Both the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain shut for trading across all main segments, including equity, equity derivatives, and the currency derivatives market.

In the commodity segment, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), the country’s largest commodity exchange, will remain closed for both trading sessions today, according to its website. The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will also remain shut for the entire day, bringing commodity derivative trades to a halt in observance of the national holiday.

The trading suspension applies uniformly to the Cash Segment, Equity Futures & Options, and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) mechanisms. Regular electronic order matching, trade confirmations, and clearing services will resume on Monday following the regular weekend closure.

Additionally, settlement procedures and fund withdrawals will observe the holiday pause. Stock broking platforms have notified clients that transaction settlements, pay-ins, and credit adjustments will reflect when banking and clearing operations restart on the next business day.

Gandhi Jayanti marks the first trading holiday of October 2026. Following the closure on Friday, market participants will see standard operations during the subsequent trading weeks before another scheduled mid-week closure later in the month.

According to the official exchange holiday calendar, Indian bourses will remain closed next on Tuesday, October 20, for Dussehra. That will be followed by the festive Muhurat Trading session in November to commemorate the start of the new Samvat year.
