Holi is the festival of colour where people, uninhibitedly, apply colour on each other and make merry. At least that's what the festival symbolises, the victory of good over evil celebrated with a splash of colours. Bollywood has often romanticised this festival and given us some amazing songs and scenes. But this festival has never been just about a romantic song or sequence for the makers. They have quite frequently been used as subplots or catalysts for many key character and storyline developments in the movie. Some of these left us scarred as well! 'Kab Hai Holi' Funny Memes Go Viral on Twitter as Netizens Remain Confused Over Holi 2023 Date To Be 7th or 8th March!.

On this auspicious day of Holi, let's talk about these sequences from Hindi movies that took the plot ahead and at times, added much more than just a splash of colour.

Darr

Damini

Holi has never been the same for us after we watched Damini. Meenakshi Sheshadri playing the titular role witnesses her help getting raped by her brother-in-law and his friends on Holi. This leaves her questioning everything and she decides to get justice for her maid. They don't make films like these anymore!

Silsila

The "Rang barse" number from Silsila is a quintessential Holi track in every celebration but what many don't realise is this is the exact moment when Sanjeev Kumar realises Amitabh Bachchan has feelings for his wife Rekha. At the end of it, two helpless spouses (Kumar and Jaya Bachchan) watch their other half make merry together and understand the implications.

Saudagar

Love isn't the only thing that gets expressed or acknowledged during holi, friendship does too. Holi in Saudagar brings an end to the 14-year-old feud between two BFFs Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar.

Kati Patang

Rajesh Khanna here plays holi with supposed widow Asha Parekh here symbolising life shouldn't lose colour because you have lost someone. Memories of the person should keep life vibrant.

Mohabbatein

Now, this is iconic for every kid or adult in 2000. Shah Rukh Khan puts a dent in Amitabh Bachchan's Parampapara, Pratishtha Aur Anushasan when he convinces the strict headmaster to let the students play holi outside the campus. But not before he applies some colour to Mr Shankar's life as well. Holi 2022 Songs Playlist: Top Five Bollywood Songs From 50s to 2020s That Will Add A Musical Touch To Your Celebration (Watch Videos).

Yeh Jaawaani Hai Dewani

It's not the "Balam Pichkari" track we want to talk about here but the end of the song. Naina played by Deepika Padukone wants to confess her love for Bunny, Ranbir Kapoor. But then she realises Bunny has some dreams of his own and those don't need a partner.

What's the point of a festival if it doesn't dissolve hate, spread love and bring people together? Holi in movies has such power!
