Producer Bhushan Kumar has officially labelled the war epic Border 2 an "organic" success, taking a firm stand against the growing trend of box office manipulation in the film industry. The film, which serves as a sequel to the 1997 classic, has reportedly crossed the INR 460 crore mark at the global box office within three weeks of its release, making it one of the highest-grossing films of 2026 so far.

During the media interaction, Kumar addressed the ongoing debate regarding "faked" or "inflated" box office numbers, a practice often used to create a false perception of a film’s popularity. He emphasised that for Border 2, the numbers reflect genuine ticket sales from the public.

"Everybody has their own perspective about how they want to announce films and box office numbers," Kumar said. "But some things should not happen, and wrong numbers are told. I don’t want to comment more on this, but I am happy that this is our film with real numbers, which people have loved and appreciated so much."

The producer noted that audiences are increasingly savvy and can "catch something fishy" if the data does not align with the actual ground-level buzz or theatre occupancy.

Sunny Deol’s Directive

Kumar also shared a candid conversation he had with the film’s lead star, Sunny Deol, prior to the release. According to the producer, Deol was particularly concerned about the integrity of the film's reporting.

"When we opened the advance booking, even Sunny sir asked me, ‘Our film’s numbers are normal, right?’" Kumar revealed. "He told me we should declare normal numbers because we keep hearing how tickets are being bought to promote films. I assured him that we are going full organic."
