‘Suryaa’: IMA Demands Urgent Review of Sunny Deol Starrer Over Doctors’ Portrayal
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has urged Union I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to review Sunny Deol's upcoming film 'Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak'. Releasing November 20, 2026, the film faces objections over its depiction of doctors and concerns about glorifying violence against healthcare workers.
Sunny Deol's highly anticipated crime thriller, Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak, slated for a November 20 theatrical release, has stirred significant controversy even before its premiere. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has escalated its concerns, writing to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to seek an urgent review of the film's content. The medical body is particularly troubled by the film's portrayal of doctors and its potential to normalize violence against healthcare professionals. ‘Ramayana’: Sunny Deol’s Lord Hanuman FIRST Look Teased, Namit Malhotra Confirms Expansive Cinematic Universe Plans.
IMA Raises Red Flags Over Doctor Portrayal in ‘Suryaa’
The IMA's objections come just days after the teaser for Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak was unveiled on October 19, coinciding with Sunny Deol's 69th birthday. The promotional material suggests a narrative where Deol's character, a retired police officer, delves into medical malpractice and systemic corruption following a personal tragedy.
The IMA has outlined four key areas of concern: the generalisation of alleged misconduct across the medical fraternity, the depiction of physical assaults on healthcare workers, the safety of medical personnel, and the potential impact on doctor-patient trust.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the IMA's formal communication questioned whether the film's portrayal of alleged corruption and violence could foster negative perceptions of doctors and hospital staff. The association explicitly stated, "Scenes depicting physical assaults on doctors, nursing staff, and hospital personnel, particularly when presented as heroic or justified acts, risk normalising violence against those committed to saving lives."
The medical body emphasised that while individual cases of misconduct should be investigated and punished, the actions of a few should not be used to tarnish the reputation of countless honest and dedicated doctors.

The IMA has urged Minister Vaishnaw to ensure an impartial review of the film's content and to consider appropriate corrective measures from the filmmakers. They have also suggested that a ban or other actions should be considered if justified under applicable law, appealing for urgent intervention in the interest of public health, healthcare worker safety, and the future of medical education in India. As the release date approaches, all eyes are now on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for its response to the IMA's serious objections.
