Even when she is not doing many movies, Mallika Sherawat knows how to catch your attention. This time, however, it is for the right cause. Recently, pictures of Mallika Sherawat in a cage has been going viral. We were shocked at first, as to what was the fuss about. Those pictures were taken at Cannes Film Festival, where Mallika Sherawat has been quite a regular at the red carpet just like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

So what's the whole cage thing? It is a gimmick to actually promote a social cause to create awareness of the crimes of forced prostitution. Mallika Sherawat has been a member of the Free A Girl’s Lock-Me-Up Campaign and to promote their cause, she had locked herself up in a 12x8 feet cage.

Speaking to DNA, Mallika Sherawat revealed, "It is my ninth year at Cannes and the festival is one of the most cogent platforms to raise the issue of child prostitution not just in India but across the world. Being locked in a cage, I wanted to drive home the imagery of how young girls who are being trafficked are trapped in a small 12x8 foot room. These innocent victims have to live and survive without any aid. There is a woman suffering abuse every minute with no hope of any change. So I thought of doing my bit and raising awareness about an issue which needs to become extinct at the earliest.”

Mallika Sherawat has been campaigning for various social causes at the Cannes Film Festival, and this year is no different. She is reportedly the brand ambassador of School of Justice, as well as Urja, and had addressed on the women-related social issues at the 65th United Nations DPI/NGO Conference in 2014.

Looks like we quite underestimated Ms Sherawat, as she is really doing a lot more than just promoting brands and taking selfies with Hollywood stars! You go, girl!
