Deepika Padukone finally had a release after Padmaavat and while Chhapaak had been one of the most anticipated films of the year, the film's collections are unfortunately not as good as expected with the kind of the buzz. Chhapaak opened in theatres with Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and the clash has definitely hard on Padukone's film. The film took to a low start with Rs 4.77 crores and further continued to have a below-average run. On its fifth day, despite there being a partial holiday, it showed minimal growth. The film collected Rs 2.55 crores on Tuesday, January 14. Chhapaak Box Office Collection Day 3: Deepika Padukone's Flick Rakes In Rs 19.02 Crore.
The film now stands with a total collection of Rs 23.92 crores at the box office. While the Deepika starrer is finding is reaching merely the 25 crore mark in five days, the Ajay Devgn starrer has reached well above Rs 90 crores. One of the key reasons for Chhapaak's poor performance has been Deepika's political stand. The actress recently visited JNU and stood in solidarity with students after they were attacked. This move of the actress received a lot of flak on social media and was responsible for creating a negative buzz around the film. Considering Deepika Padukone is one of the A-list Bollywood actresses, the box office performance of the film is quite poor. Deepika stars as an acid attack survivor in the film that is inspired from the life of real-life survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The film directed by Meghna Gulzar opened to positive critics reviews.
