Her full-fledged Kollywood debut will be alongside superstar Rajinikanth. Vidya Balan To Make Tamil Debut With ‘Jailer 2’?

An insider close to the development told Hindustan Times, "Vidya plays the role of Mithun Chakraborty's eldest daughter. Mithun is the leading antagonist in the film and will be seen alongside Rajnikanth. The film is currently being shot in Chennai and will move into post-production by January." After completing the Chennai schedule, the team will shift to Goa for two months of shooting, which will commence in late October.

Jailer 2 will enter post-production by January. Makers of  Jailer 2 are aiming for an August 2026 release for the highly anticipated sequel. Notably, Vidya Balan made a special appearance in the Tamil film Nerkonda Paarvai in 2019.

Vidya Balan was last seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 alongside Kartik Aaryan and Madhuri Dixit. Apart from Jailer 2, the actress also has Riteish Deshmukh's historical epic Raja Shivaji, centred around the life of the legendary Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The movie is slated for a May 2026 release.
