The first half of 2019 gave us some really incredible movies and performances. Movies like Gully Boy, Kabir Singh (albeit the controversy it created) and Article 15 have had their fair share of admirers. As for the performances, we have seen some incredible acts both from newcomers and the experienced stars. As a recap for what we liked in the first half of 2019, we had listed our pick of fave actors and actresses of the year. Gully Boy, Article 15, Photograph, 7 Movies that Impressed Us in the First Half of 2019.

For the actresses, we had these great performances picked up for the list - Kangana Ranaut in Manikarnika, Tabu in De De Pyaar De, Alia Bhatt in Gully Boy, Bhumi Pednekar in Sonchiriya, Rasika Dugal in Hamid, Radhika Madan in Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, Sayani Gupta in Article 15 and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan in the Netflix film Soni. Taapsee Pannu almost made it to the list for her scintillating act in Game Over, but since it was a Tamil film dubbed in Hindi, we had to let it go. We then asked the readers to choose their favourite performance. And they did!

And most of the votes to go to Kangana Ranaut for her bravura performance in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Playing Rani Laxmibai, one of India's first freedom fighters, Kangana pitched in a powerful act in a film that has been partly directed by her too. Her close competitor in the poll results was Alia Bhatt's rebel act in Gully Boy. So congrats Kangana for winning the polls and her fans for making this victory happen!
