Akshay Kumar turns 52 today on September 9 and he has already dropped a big surprise for his fans. The actor in his latest interview to a leading news daily has finally confirmed that he will be starring in the much-talked-about Prithiviraj Chauhan biopic. While rumours of Akshay and Manushi Chillar were doing the rounds, we at least have confirmation on the actor being finalised to play the Rajput king. After the recent success of Mission Mangal, the actor has now confirmed starring in the YRF film which has been titled Prithviraj. In his recent interview to Hindustan Times, the actor spoke about the motive behind coming up with a film around the Rajput king. Akshay said, “It is truly an honour that I will be playing one of the most fearless and courageous kings of India. As a nation, we should always celebrate our heroes and immortalise what they did to propagate the values that Indians lived by. It’s our attempt to bring to light Chauhan’s valour and daredevilry.”

The film will be helmed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who is known for his nuanced partition film Pinjar and also the man behind the television epic Chanakya. Further throwing light on why Akshay was drawn to this project, he said, "Prithviraj was the only person standing in front of a merciless nemesis (Muhammad of Ghor) and the bravery he showed, made him a true Indian hero, an inspiration for generations and a legend. There has not been any confirmation on the female lead as of now although, according to a report in Bollywood Hungama, Manushi Chillar has already started prepping up for the role of Sanyukta (one of the three wives of Prithviraj Chauhan). The film titled Prithviraj is slated to release in Diwali 2020.
