If the latest reports are to be believed, Disney+ is in the process of developing its own version of the popular Power Rangers series. The show's creative team has now shortlisted Priyanka Chopra to play the role of Rita Repulsa. the legendary antagonist. The upcoming series, currently in development for Disney+, is being spearheaded by showrunners Jonathan E Steinberg and Dan Shotz. The duo recently gained acclaim for their work on the hit series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Unlike previous iterations of the franchise, this reboot is expected to be a high-budget, narrative-driven reimagining that does not rely on repurposed footage from the Japanese Super Sentai series. Production is reportedly aimed to begin as early as April 2026.

The Rumoured Ensemble Cast

In addition to the buzz surrounding Chopra, several other names have been linked to the project. Reports indicate that Peyton Elizabeth Lee (Andi Mack) and Mason Thames (The Black Phone) are being considered for lead roles among the new team of Rangers. Other actors mentioned in early casting discussions include Momona Tamada, known for Avatar: The Last Airbender, as well as Shaun Dixon and Paris Bravo.

If confirmed, the role of the intergalactic sorceress Rita Repulsa would add to Chopra’s growing portfolio of larger-than-life characters. The actress has previously explored villainous territory in the 2017 film Baywatch, where she played the primary antagonist Victoria Leeds.

The casting rumours come during a busy period for the actress. Chopra is currently preparing for the release of the action-adventure film The Bluff, scheduled to stream on Prime Video starting February 25, 2026.
