Pankaj Tripathi is considered as one of the finest acting talents we have in our industry. The actor got a lot of adulation for his performances in movies like Gangs of Wasseypur, Gurgaon, Newton, Bareilly Ki Barfi etc. So it was slightly disappointing to see him have such a reduced role in the first season of the much talked first season of Netflix's Sacred Games. While Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte and Nawazuddin Siddiqui had major roles in the series, Pankaj Tripathi had a minor role of a Guru with big political connections.

However, when the season ended, it was hinted that Guruji would have a major arc in the second season, as Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) refers to him as his third 'father'. The hint might come true, as per a report in DNA. A source close to the development told the publication, "The makers have already planned a second season, the shooting of which will start in November in Mumbai. Pankaj, who appears as Guruji, only in three scenes apart from his voiceover in the first season, will have a central role in the second season alongside Nawazuddin as he is the real mastermind."

It has also been reported that the show will have a four-season arc. Saif Ali Khan, himself, has confirmed this in an earlier interview where he revealed that each season will continue to have 8 episodes. Sacred Games is based on a bestseller by the same name, written by Vikram Chandra. While Saif and Nawazuddin got high praise, the show also managed to make stars out of supporting players like Jatin Sarna, Gireesh Kulkarni, Kubbra Sait, Rajshri Deshpande, Shalini Vatsa etc.
