Actress Sonakshi Sinha, known for films like Dabangg and Dahaad, took to her Instagram on Thursday, July 16, 2026, to express her strong support for Sonam Wangchuk, directly questioning the government's prolonged silence. In a video message, Sinha articulated her inability to remain quiet amidst the escalating crisis. Sinha lauded Wangchuk's relentless fight, emphasising his contributions to the country and his current sacrifice for the future of its children. "For the past 18 days, he has been on a hunger strike without food. And why? Because he is fighting for the future of children, a future he believes is being pushed towards ruin," she added. The actress also commended the youth and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) for "raising their voices for truth and for a better future." She powerfully concluded, questioning, "When is it going to be enough? Will you get up when this man dies? And whose responsibility will that be?"

Mounting Concerns and Wider Celebrity Support

Wangchuk's health has become a critical point of concern, with medical reports indicating he has lost over 9 kg since beginning his fast and is under 24-hour medical vigilance. Doctors have issued warnings that prolonged fasting could severely affect his organs. Despite appeals from various quarters, Wangchuk has firmly refused to end his fast, urging supporters to instead join a "Sansad Chalo" (March to Parliament) movement scheduled for July 20, 2026.

The Delhi High Court has also stepped in, directing authorities to conduct daily clinical health checks on the activist. Beyond Sinha and Sawant, other prominent figures have also lent their voices. Actor Atul Kulkarni announced a one-day fast in solidarity on July 16, 2026. Veteran actor Shabana Azmi, Swara Bhasker (who visited Jantar Mantar on July 14, 2026), Omi Vaidya ("3 Idiots" fame), music composer Vishal Dadlani, and actor Fatima Sana Shaikh are among others who have expressed their support and urged for government dialogue. Shweta Tiwari Says Sonam Wangchuk’s Hunger Strike Is for a ‘Genuine Cause,’ Distances Herself From CJP (View Post).
