JP Dutta completes his war film trilogy with Paltan. The director wowed everyone with his 1997 film Border that starred Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff. The multi-starrer went on to become a blockbuster and remains one of the best movies of the year. The movie even earned three National Awards that year. While Border’s great soundtrack was appreciated it was a war movie that thrived on patriotism and not hate. It is one of those rare movies that portrayed the humane aspect of a war. Filmmaker JP Dutta put his heart and soul into this film and the movie was shot in real locations. If buzz is to be believed then the ammunition used in this movie were real too.
Interestingly, Dutta’s original version of Border was to feature many big stars of the time. Sanjay Dutt was to play Jackie Shroff’s part, Andy Bajwa in this movie. However, Dutt was sentenced jail term in the 1993 Bomb Blast Case and was being tried under TADA. Sanjay’s loss proved to be his Khalnayak co-star Jackie Shroff’s gain. It wasn’t just Dutt, actors likes Manisha Koirala and Juhi Chawla too were approached by the filmmaker for different parts in the film. However, Juhi was unhappy with the volume of her part in the movie and Manisha walked out for reasons unknown.
Here’s a throwback to one of the most iconic movies of the 90s and one of the best sound tracks of Bollywood. We bet you would shed a tear or two even today on watching this.
JP Dutta returns to the silver screen with another war film Paltan. Paltan is all set to release this Friday and stars Arjun Rampal, Harshvardhan Rane, Sidhanth Kapoor, Gurmeet Choudhary, Luv Sinha, Esha Gupta, Sonal Chauhan.
