Neha Jha was arrested after railway security and police personnel recovered around 75 litres of liquor from the First AC coach of the Swatantrata Senani Express at Bihar’s Samastipur station. The arrest followed a tip-off that prompted a joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and Crime Intelligence Bureau (CIB) to search the H-1 coach.
The train was travelling from New Delhi to Jaynagar when officials acted on the information. According to Dainik Bhaskar, the team searched Neha’s luggage after finding the compartment door locked from inside. How Was Neha Jha Caught?
The operation began after railway officials received information about a suspected liquor consignment being carried on the train. The joint RPF, GRP and CIB team reached the H-1 First AC coach at Samastipur station and conducted a search.
Officials reportedly noticed that the compartment door was locked from inside. They then searched the luggage in the coach and found liquor stored in bags and a briefcase. Police said the total quantity recovered was around 75 litres. The recovery led to Neha’s arrest, and investigators are now questioning her to establish where the liquor came from and who was supposed to receive it.
According to police, Neha was allegedly travelling with the consignment to Darbhanga, where the liquor was reportedly intended to be delivered to certain people. Investigators are now trying to establish who supplied the liquor and whether an organised network was involved in transporting and distributing it. Officials are also examining the identities of the alleged intended recipients.
Investigators have learnt that Neha and her sisters had been living in a rented house in Darbhanga. One of her sisters reportedly faces a liquor-related case in the district. Police are examining whether there is any connection between the earlier case and the current investigation.
Neha’s father, Pankaj Kumar Jha, who works in agriculture, was also allegedly arrested in a liquor-related case around two years ago. Her mother works as an Anganwadi worker. Police, however, have not said that previous cases involving Neha’s family members establish her involvement in the current case.
Police Probe Possible Supply Network
Investigators are also examining claims about Neha’s alleged contacts with doctors and financially well-off individuals who may have been part of the suspected distribution network. Police said no previous criminal case against Neha has been found so far.
The investigation is now focused on identifying the source of the liquor, its intended recipients and whether other people were involved in the alleged transportation and distribution operation.
The recovery was made during a coordinated search at Samastipur station following information about the suspected consignment. Police are continuing to question Neha and examine her alleged Darbhanga links and family background as they try to establish the wider circumstances surrounding the case.
