Avengers: Endgame is inching closer to being the highest grossing movie at the worldwide box office. Ever since its release, the movie has been breaking box office records left, right and centre. Now, it is moving forward like a slow but giant glacier towards the ultimate box office title. Currently, James Cameron's Avatar, which released in 2009, holds the record of being the highest earner ever in the global market. But, as of today, Endgame is a mere $7 million shy of beating Avatar's record. As per Variety, the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, earned $2.8 million, worldwide, this weekend. This brings the movie's magic number to $2.78 billion worldwide. Avengers: Endgame Has Already Beaten the Box Office Record of Avatar – Here’s How.

Avatar's worldwide collection is $2.788 billion. You can imagine how close the competition is right now. It can be predicted that the Endgame will dethrone Avatar by the end of this week, maybe sooner, as it is still running successfully in theatres after the re-released version, which has 6-minutes of extra footage than the original release.

Avatar might have been the box office champion for the longest time, but many critics have noted that the movie has left next to no cultural impact over the years. Whereas, MCU movies are thriving on the very impact they have on popular culture. Four sequels to Avatar have been announced by the makers, and the next two, Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, are already being shot simultaneously. December 21, the intended release date for the first sequel, might change the box office game once again and take back the trophy from Avengers: Endgame. But we also hope that this time the movie is able to affect the popular culture like the MCU movies have.
