Barry Jenkins' Mufasa: The Lion King is the prequel to the  2019 live-action adaptation of The Lion King. As the title suggests, it puts Simba's dead father Mufasa in the spotlight, covering his life story and his imminent rivalry with sibling Scar. The teaser trailer has dropped in, and it looks quite good visually. But as an Indian viewer, we are curious about something else. Our question here is, will Shah Rukh Khan return to voice Mufasa in the Hindi version of Mufasa: The Lion King when it drops on December 20, 2024? Mufasa-The Lion King Trailer: Disney's Live-Action Prequel Explores Lives of Young Mufasa and His Brother Scar.

Shah Rukh Khan and his son, Aryan Khan, had voiced Mufasa and Simba respectively in the Hindi dubbed version of the 2019 remake, and the Hindi dub was a decent hit at the box office. However, in Mufasa, the titular character in the Hollywood film is being voiced by Aaron Pierre, instead of James Earl Jones, clearly implying that the prequel wants a 'younger' voice for the character. So it remains to be seen if the Indian release of Mufasa - The Lion King would bring back Shah Rukh Khan to voice the character or look for someone younger here.

Also, Donald Glover will return to voice Simba in the prequel, so that begs another question of whether Aryan Khan is also returning to voice the character in the Hindi dub version. The Lion King Movie Review: Jon Favreau’s Remake of the Classic Disney Tale Trades Impactful StoryTelling for Stunning Imagery.

ICYMI, Watch Shah Rukh Khan Dubbing for 2019's The Lion King:

In the past, both Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan had voiced lead characters of Mr Incredible and Dash respectively in the Hindi version of 2004's The Incredibles. But they didn't return for the sequel, Incredibles 2, which came in 2018. If SRK had returned, it would have been an interesting reunion with his very popular co-star, Kajol who had replaced Rakshanda Khan as the voice for Elastigirl.
