James Gunn’s Superman - his first film in the DCU reboot - releases in theatres on July 11. David Corenswet makes his debut as Clark Kent/Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. This isn’t an origin story; Superman is already an established saviour of the world, interacting with both civilians and fellow superheroes. ‘Superman’ Movie Review: David Corenswet Flies High in James Gunn’s Politically Daring Yet Overstuffed Superhero Saga.
The film features a stacked ensemble cast including Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Element Man, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, among others.
And despite the star-studded lineup, there’s still room for some surprise cameos. Here are five that stand out:
Bradley Cooper as Jor-El

The Oscar-nominated actor-director, best known for voicing Rocket Raccoon in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, appears here as the hologram of Clark Kent’s Kryptonian father, Jor-El.
Angela Sarafyan as Lara Lor-Van

The Westworld actress plays Superman’s mother, appearing as a hologram alongside Jor-El. Their brief appearance carries an interesting twist later in the narrative.
John Cena as Peacemaker

John Cena reprises his role as Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker, the foul-mouthed antihero from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker series, both directed by Gunn. He appears in a news segment, where he hilariously shares his very obvious disdain for Superman. ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Teaser: John Cena’s Anti-Hero Faces Rick Flag Sr, His Own Doppelganger and Other Strange Threats in James Gunn’s HBO Series (Watch Video).
Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord

James Gunn’s brother - a regular fixture in his projects - appears as Maxwell Lord, the billionaire previously played by Pedro Pascal in Wonder Woman 1984. This version of Lord also appears briefly in the Peacemaker Season 2 trailer and makes a short appearance near the end of Superman, offering a news byte to the media.
Milly Alcock as Supergirl

Supergirl is the next film in the DCU slate, and House of the Dragon breakout star Milly Alcock plays Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. She makes a fun cameo in the epilogue as a party-loving Kryptonian who, interestingly, owns Krypto. Her portrayal is deliberately reckless and carefree, teasing a very different kind of Supergirl from what we’ve seen before.
Honourable Mentions
Grace Chan, Alan Tudyk, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, and Jennifer Holland lend their voices to the Superman robots at the Fortress of Solitude.
