Hollywood biggie The Lion King finally released yesterday and garnered pretty much decent reviews from the critics across Indian. While everyone on social media went gaga over how visually stunning the Disney classic is, the film couldn't pack a solid punch with its storytelling. At least that's what most critics pointed out. Anyway, The Lion King still performed brilliantly at the ticket windows on day 1 and took a huge opening. It has even left behind Tom Holland's Spider-Man Far From Home in the box office race. After witnessing a good occupancy in the morning shows, The Lion King ended day 1 by raking in Rs 11.06 crore. film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to the microblogging site Twitter a while back and announced the updated figures saying, "#TheLionKing roars... Opens in double digits on Day 1... Trends better than #SpiderManFarFromHome [Day 1: ₹ 10.05 cr]... Biz will witness an upturn on Day 2 and 3, when kids and families throng cineplexes... Fri ₹ 11.06 cr. India biz. Gross BOC: ₹ 13.17 cr. All versions."
Further, a report in Boxofficeindia.com has noted, "It is the eighth film from Hollywood to hit double digits and also just collected a little better than The Jungle Book in terms of NETT collections though the GROSS numbers will be less. The film will score very well over the weekend as family and kids come in numbers but the test will come on Monday." Featuring the voices of James Earl Jones as Mufasa and JD McCrary as Young Simba, the movie has been released in four languages in India - English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It has been directed and produced by Jon Favreau who also remade The Jungle Book in 2016.
