Acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan is preparing to direct his landmark 100th feature film, featuring long-time collaborator and Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. The upcoming project, which marks a historic "century" for the director, is reportedly an emotional musical drama that delves into the complexities of a father-son relationship. Priyadarshan x Mohanlal To Go on Floors in December 2026?
According to a report by India Today, the yet-untitled film is expected to begin its shooting schedule toward the end of December 2026. The timing allows both the director and the lead actor to fulfil their current professional obligations before dedicating themselves to this personal project.
The film is being produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. This marks the 38th production for the banner, continuing a prolific partnership between the actor, director, and producer. Priyadarshan has noted that having the same hero for his first and hundredth films is a record that may never be rewritten in world cinema.
A Musical Exploration of Ego and Legacy
The narrative centres on a father and son who are both musicians. While music serves as their primary bond, it also becomes the source of significant conflict. The story is expected to explore their creative journeys, navigating the "ups and downs of their relationship" caused by artistic differences and generational perspectives.
A source close to the development told India Today, "This isn't just a celebratory project marking Priyadarshan sir's 100th film, but also a deeply personal story. The emotional graph between the father and son is the heart of the film, and music plays a crucial role."
Narrative Style and Themes
The film is expected to blend Priyadarshan’s signature storytelling with a layered, character-driven approach. Unlike the slapstick comedies often associated with the duo, this project will lean into deeper emotional themes. ‘Bhooth Bangla’ Actor Akshay Kumar DEFENDS Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar 2’ Amid Propaganda Debate, Says ‘I Really Enjoyed Watching It’ (Watch Video).
The source further explained, "The conflict in the film is very real. It's about pride, legacy, and the need for validation, themes that resonate across generations. But here, it becomes more layered because both the father and son operate in the same creative space." The insider added that the music will serve as a "narrative device" where each composition reflects the "characters' internal conflicts, their disagreements, and their silences."
