Malayalam cinema's powerhouse performer, Fahadh Faasil, recently surprised fans with a nostalgic confession, revealing that none other than Tamil superstar-turned-politician CM Vijay was the first person to foresee his acting prowess. CM Vijay assumed the role of Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister on May 10, 2026. Faasil shared this intriguing memory during a recent interview on Behindwoods TV with veteran filmmaker KS Ravikumar, offering a rare glimpse into his early days and a significant encounter with the now-Chief Minister. Fahadh Faasil Says ‘I Married a Child’ About Wife Nazariya Nazim While Praising Co-Star Ssara Palekar During Film Promotions.
Fahadh Faasil Recalls His First Meeting with Vijay
Fahadh Faasil recounted meeting Vijay when he was 15 years old. The memorable encounter took place on the sets of Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, the highly acclaimed 1997 Tamil romantic drama directed by Fahadh's father, the renowned filmmaker Fazil. The film's shooting locale, notably, was the Faasil family home.
"Vijay sir was the first person to ask me if I would become an actor," Fahadh recalled in the interview. At that time, their conversations primarily revolved around cinema. Faasil specifically remembered Vijay discussing the concept for his then-upcoming film Kushi (2000), which was directed by SJ Suryah and starred Vijay, while Faasil himself was involved with another Fazil directorial, Kannukkul Nilavu (2000). Faasil also admitted that he never envisioned Vijay's future trajectory into politics and eventually becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The actor also touched upon the challenging period following the box-office failure of his 2002 debut film, Kaiyethum Doorath, which was also directed by his father. This setback led him to step away from the industry temporarily and pursue higher studies in the United States, earning a Master's degree in Philosophy from the University of Miami, a hiatus that ultimately shaped his distinct approach to acting.
