Three people were killed and two others seriously injured after a car rammed into a truck on National Highway-48 in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district on Tuesday, police said. The accident occurred near KR Halli Gate in Hiriyur taluk. According to police, the five people were travelling from Bengaluru towards Kushtagi when the accident took place. The deceased have been identified as Shashidhar, 22, Manjunath, 22, and Basavaraj, 21, all from the Kushtagi area of Koppal district. The two other passengers, Hanumesh and Praveen, sustained serious injuries and were taken to Hiriyur government hospital for treatment. Initial reports said the truck’s tyre suddenly burst while it was moving, causing the vehicle to veer towards the left. The car travelling behind it then collided with the truck. Shashidhar and Manjunath reportedly died at the accident spot, while Basavaraj succumbed to his injuries while being taken to hospital, according to local reports. Personnel from Hiriyur Rural Police Station reached the spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered at the Hiriyur Rural police station, and further investigation is underway. The victims were reportedly travelling to Kushtagi after the death of Basavaraj’s father, who had died following an illness, to attend his funeral.
