The New Fleet: Enhancing Connectivity and Modernisation

The newly inducted fleet comprises 300 buses, procured at a total cost of INR 127 crore. This significant investment aims to enhance connectivity, improve passenger comfort, and provide more reliable travel options for daily commuters across the state. The fleet is a mix of conventional and cleaner-fuel vehicles, reflecting the government's dual focus on expansion and environmental responsibility.

Of these, 65 buses have been specifically allocated to the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) to bolster Chennai's city routes and address urban commuter demands. The remaining vehicles will be distributed among the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations (TNSTC) in various regions including Villupuram, Salem, Coimbatore, Kumbakonam, Madurai, and Tirunelveli, ensuring improved services across urban and intercity operations.

C. Joseph Vijay, born on June 22, 1974, assumed office as the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026. His political journey began with the founding of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on February 2, 2024. The TVK, which advocates for egalitarianism, secularism, and social justice, made a historic debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, securing 108 seats and emerging as the single largest party, effectively ending decades of dominance by Dravidian parties.
