Jason Sanjay on Father Vijay Becoming Tamil Nadu CM

Speaking to Behindwoods TV, Jason Sanjay, who is 25 years old, reflected on his father's historic achievement. "It is a historic revolution that has taken place," Sanjay stated, emphasising the magnitude of Vijay's win. Thalapathy Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), founded in February 2024, secured a landmark victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, which concluded with results declared on May 4, 2026. Vijay was subsequently sworn in as the 9th Chief Minister on May 10, 2026.

Jason further elaborated on the impact of this political shift on his family. "Because of this, whether it is me, my sister or my entire family, we have all received an additional responsibility and legacy to carry forward. We also need to safeguard it. We will have to be extremely careful and cautious," he shared, acknowledging the public scrutiny that comes with their new status.

He also fondly recalled the career advice imparted by his father. "He wanted me to build my own identity and name. What worked best for both of us was that we were thinking along the same lines. We were on the same page. As a father, he helped me. But when it came to my career, he motivated me to learn things on my own and gain ground-level experience. He never spoon-fed me. I am really thankful to him, my mom and my entire family," Jason revealed.

Jason Sanjay's Directorial Debut 'Sigma'

While his father embarks on a new political journey, Jason Sanjay is carving his own path in the film industry. The young talent is set to make his directorial debut with the highly anticipated film 'Sigma'. The movie, starring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in lead roles, explores a compelling narrative based on a string of robberies.

Originally slated for a July 31, 2026, release, Sigma has reportedly been postponed to August to avoid clashing with the theatrical run of Vijay's final film as an actor, Jana Nayagan, which hit screens on July 23, 2026, and has already crossed the INR 300 crore mark worldwide. Jason Sanjay honed his filmmaking skills through studies at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in Toronto, Canada, and the University of Southern California, and previously directed a short film titled Pull the Trigger in 2022. Reports also suggest that Jason Sanjay might be considering an acting debut in a Tamil film following Sigma, signalling a full-fledged entry into Kollywood. Vijay’s Son Jason Sanjay Reveals Why He Rejected ‘Premam’ Director Alphonse Puthren’s Lead Role Offer at 20.
