The game features over 600,000 discrete animations, up from 55,000 in GTA V and 300,000 in Red Dead Redemption 2, paired with individually art directed NPC behaviors. Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson noted in an interview with The New York Times that an internal playthrough focusing on the main story and select branching side objectives took approximately 80 hours, though completion times will vary based on player choice.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled exclusively as a single-player console release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
