New Delhi, Sep 18: Congress leader Ajay Maken has reportedly resigned from the post of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee's president. The Congress, however, said Ajay Maken has not resigned, but gone for treatment. "Delhi Congress President Ajay Maken has not resigned. He has some health issues and has gone for a check-up. He will be back soon," the Congress said.

Maken is a two-time Member of Parliament and three-time Member of Legislative Assembly of Delhi. Maken was the youngest cabinet minister from the Congress party between 2006 and 2012. Ajay Maken's resignation comes ahead of crucial Lok Sabha elections 2019. Ajay Maken was defeated by Meenakshi Lekhi of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from New Delhi parliamentary constituency. Under Maken's leadership, the Congress was wiped out by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi Assembly polls held in 2015. To take on the AAP and BJP, the Congress had managed to bring Maken and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit togather in February this year. Supreme Court Verdict on Delhi L-G vs Arvind Kejriwal: Time For L-G And CM To Stop Blame Game Now And Develop Delhi, Says Ajay Maken.

At a press conference with Dikshit, Maken admitted that he had “committed few mistakes but he is rectifying them”. Political observers believe Maken's exit would pave the way for the alliance between the AAP and the Congress.
