Kashipura, June 21: Madhya Pradesh governor and former chief minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel has made a bizarre statement on women who don't breastfeed their newborn babies. She was attending a programme in Madhya Pradesh when made a statement that modern mothers do not breastfeed their babies, fearing that the shape of their body may get ruined. She made the rather shocking remark while she was addressing a few anganwadi workers in a programme held at Kashipura District of Madhya Pradesh according to media reports. Furthermore, she added those who use bottles to feed milk to their children are risking their lives.

During her speech, she also doled out advice on how important it is to breastfeed newborns and suggested to the pregnant women's who were present in the programme to take care of their babies. She also urged them to take advantage of government schemes, which have been exclusively introduced for the benefit of the mother and child. However,  the governer's statement about modern women and breastfeeding is seemingly in bad taste and may not be appreciated by many. Anandiben had helped break the stereotype in Gujarat by becoming the first female CM in the state where politics was mainly dominated by men. Therefore, such statements from her, painting all modern women with the same brush is rather irresponsible.
