Bengaluru, July 7: A constable was rewarded with a honeymoon package after he chased three bike-borne robbers for 4 km and caught one of them. Venkatesh KE, a constable attached to Bellandur police station in Bengaluru, is set to tie knot in November this year.

During patrolling near the Big Bazaar on Sarjapura Road at around 2:45 am on Friday, constable Venkatesh heard Hanumanth, a fast-food chain employee, shouting, “Thief, thief”.  Three bike-borne robbers were speeding away after snatching Hanumanth's mobile phone.

Venkatesh didn't waste a second and took his Cheetah bike to nab the robbers, who were heading towards Koramangala. He chased them for 4 kilometres and rammed his bike into one of the culprits’ motorcycles. The robber fell on the ground, while two others managed to escape.

He took the robber he had cornered to Bellandur police station. “The victim’s mobile has been taken away by the other two miscreants. We have launched a hunt to nab them,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying by leading daily.

For his bravery, Venkatesh was not only felicitated by seniors but also awarded Rs 10,000 cash and a three-night four-day honeymoon trip to Munnar. “Venkatesh’s presence of mind and courage helped us crack a gang,” Abdul Ahad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield), told The Hindu.
