In a press release, CBSE clarified the reason behind its decision and cited a Delhi High Court directive dated, July 11, 2018. Delhi HC asked the educational board to ensure that the time of results and re-evaluation are taken into account while determining the cut-off date for Delhi University admissions. CBSE was quoted in IANS report, “There are also certain other related subjects such as Typography and Computer Applications (English), Web applications, Graphics, Office Communication, etc. where there are very few students, in fact, less than 500.” These subjects will be included in February exams as they have a larger practical module and shorter theory papers. It further added, “Due to this, results go into the fourth week of May, and the re-evaluation process gets over only by July-end. By this time, the admissions in DU and many other universities is almost complete.” Aadhaar Not Mandatory for School and College Admissions, Boards Like CBSE and Competitive Exams Like NEET.

Till 2018, CBSE followed its traditional pattern where the exams began in March and continued till April to accommodate all combination of subjects. The results are pushed to the end of May, and accordingly, the result for re-evaluation was published in July, putting the DU aspirants at a disadvantage. This year, too the process to re-check was delayed, and some of the results were released after the 2nd cut off list of Delhi University.
