The measures were discussed at an inter-departmental coordination meeting chaired by Gurugram Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) chairperson Uttam Singh. Gurugram School Bus Guidelines Amid Rain
Under the new system, Gurugram Traffic Police and schools will share real-time information about waterlogging on school bus routes. On days of rainfall or weather alerts, updates will be issued at 5:30 am, 10:30 am and 12:30 pm. Flash updates will be shared within 30 minutes if sudden waterlogging or road blockages occur.
Schools have been instructed to avoid sending buses through waterlogged roads and use alternative routes wherever possible. Authorities have also directed schools to follow phased dispersal of students during heavy rainfall based on ground conditions.
No Child To Be Dropped At Waterlogged Bus Stops
The administration has made it clear that children must not be dropped at waterlogged or unattended bus stops. Students must be handed over only to their parents or authorised guardians.
Each school bus must have a staff escort and adequate drinking water. Drivers have been instructed to avoid waterlogged roads and underpasses. Any changes in bus routes or timings must be communicated to parents in advance through SMS or school apps.
Traffic Police, Tow Vehicles To Be Deployed
Traffic personnel, police units and tow vehicles will be positioned at sensitive points along school bus routes. Priority movement will be maintained during peak school hours, particularly between 7 am and 9 am and 12 pm and 3 pm.
Haryana Roadways buses will also remain on standby at selected locations to assist if school buses become stranded or break down because of waterlogging.
New Communication System For Schools
District education authorities have been directed to establish a WhatsApp broadcast group along with bulk SMS and email systems covering school heads and transport officials across government and private schools.
Information received from the traffic police must be shared with schools within 15 minutes. The system will cover areas including Sohna, Pataudi, Manesar, Farrukhnagar and Badshahpur.
Schools will also have to appoint a transport in-charge or route safety officer and ensure that students are not kept in basements or other low-lying areas during rainfall.
Drainage, Electrical Safety Measures
Regular inspection of electrical panels and exposed wiring has been made mandatory. Any incident involving a school bus or potential threat to student safety must be reported immediately to the relevant GMDA and MCG helplines.
Civic agencies, including GMDA, MCG, HSVP, Haryana Roadways and the Public Works Department, have been directed to prioritise drainage improvements around school routes.
Officials will remain stationed at identified waterlogging points during and after rainfall. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonu Bhatt has been tasked with monitoring compliance and will conduct weekly review meetings with concerned departments.
The measures come after heavy rain caused significant waterlogging and traffic congestion in Gurugram, raising concerns over the safety of schoolchildren travelling through affected areas.
