Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the alleged Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 paper leak after the examination, scheduled for June 28, was postponed. The move comes after Bhiwandi Police arrested three individuals who were allegedly found in possession of copies of the original question paper.

The SIT will be headed by Thane Joint Commissioner of Police Panjabrao Ugale. Three Arrested in Alleged Paper Leak Case

According to an official release, Bhiwandi Police in Thane district arrested three individuals, originally from Bihar and Haryana, who were allegedly found with copies of the original TET question paper.

Officials said multiple police teams have been dispatched to different states to trace the source of the alleged leak and identify the mastermind behind the operation. Maharashtra TET 2026 Exam Postponed After Paper Leak Day Before Exam.

A case has been registered at Kongaon Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Maharashtra Competitive Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, and the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and Other Specified Examinations Act.

Officials said invoking the Maharashtra Competitive Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, allows stringent action, including non-bailable offences, against those accused of compromising the integrity of competitive examinations.

TET 2026 Examination Postponed

Following the developments, the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) announced that the TET 2026 examination scheduled for June 28 had been postponed. More than six lakh candidates were set to appear for the examination across 1,728 centres at 37 locations across Maharashtra.

"Given the gravity of the situation and the necessity for an in-depth probe, the examination scheduled for June 28, 2026, has been postponed," the MSCE said in a statement.

The council reiterated its commitment to conducting the examination with complete transparency, stating that the postponement was necessary to facilitate a fair investigation into the alleged paper leak.

Maintaining what it described as a zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice, the MSCE urged candidates not to pay attention to rumours. The council said revised examination dates and the updated schedule will be announced on its official website after the investigation progresses.

Officials also clarified that candidates will not be required to pay any re-registration fee when the examination is rescheduled.

The newly constituted SIT will supervise the investigation as police continue to examine the alleged paper leak network. Investigators are working to determine how the question paper was allegedly leaked, identify those involved and establish whether a larger organised racket was operating across multiple states.
