Tech giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) conducted the world’s largest recruitment exam on behalf of Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) on August 9 at 439 examination centres in 166 cities in India. In the first stage online Computer-Based exam, for 60,000 Assistant Loco Pilot and Technicians posts, about 47.55 lakh aspirants appeared. However, on the first day of the exam, RRB saw 74 per cent attendance of candidates. Further, due to technical glitches, RRB had to cancel the second shift exam at iON Digital Zone iDZ 2, Ghaziabad (TC Code- 8992) centre.

Due to the cancellation of the exam, 186 candidates reportedly have been affected. The Indian Railways asked students not to worry as they will conduct a re-exam for them within a month. A total of 3,59,605 participated in the ALP and technician exam. The 74 per cent turnout is a record-breaking for all the RRB examinations conducted so far. During the recruitment examination, every effort was made by the Indian Railways to ensure peaceful exam environment in all the cities, all test centres were monitored with highest level security measures, and IT-enabled features were incorporated in the examination process.

Out of the total number of candidates, 83 per cent of them were provided exam centres within the 500 kilometres. Besides, special care was taken so that almost all women candidates and persons with disability are given exam halls within 200 kilometres. Although a few students were unhappy as they had to travel to nearby states to participate in the RRB recruitment 2018 exam, Indian Railways took extra efforts. They arranged special trains from places such as Deoria, Chhapra, Patna, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Ara to destinations like Secunderabad, Bhopal, Indore, NRC, etc. Quoting the Railway Ministry report, ten pairs of such special trains have been mobilized, and more trains are to be planned in the future.

For any regular updates on RRB ALP and Technician exams, the candidates are recommended to refer to their official websites only and not be misguided by rumours circulated on social media. In the next examination stage, about 1.9 crore candidates will appear for about 63,000 posts, and the entire exam process is expected to be completed within the current financial year.
