Mumbai, October 1: The fuel rates continue to soar causing immense trouble to the commuters. Petrol price in Mumbai has touched Rs 91.08 per litre (increase by Rs 0.24) and diesel rates have risen by Rs 0.32 to Rs 79.72. Mumbai has the highest sales tax or VAT. Petrol & Diesel prices in Delhi are Rs 83.73 per litre (increase by Rs 0.24) and Rs 75.09 per litre (increase by Rs 0.30), respectively. A litre of petrol in Kolkata is being sold at Rs 85.53 and diesel is being sold at Rs 76.94/litre.

Price of petrol broke the May 29 record high of Rs 86.24 in Mumbai on September 2. Since then, there has been a rise in rates almost daily. Price of petrol has increased by 13 per cent while diesel has gone up by nearly 19 per cent in less than seven months in the financial capital of the country. Experts in the oil industry have speculated that prices of petrol could hit a 'century' (Rs 100 mark) in Mumbai well before Diwali.
