Mumbai, April 4: A 65-year-old woman was arrested today for allegedly killing her 75-year-old husband who she suspected was having an "extra-marital affair with two women" from their neighbourhood in suburban Chembur, police said. The deceased, identified as Chotelal Mourya, was found lying injured in his home in Memon Nagar area in the eastern suburb, where he was residing with his wife Dhanu Devi, on Sunday, a police officer said.

A police team rushed to the house and shifted Mourya to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead before admission, he said. Initially, police registered a case of accidental death and launched a probe. "However, a case of murder was registered by Tilak Nagar police yesterday on the basis of the postmortem report which identified head injury as the cause of Mourya's death," said DCP, Zone VI, Sahaji Umap.

During an investigation it came to light that nobody had entered Mourya's house from outside as claimed by Devi and that she was the only person present inside the house at the time of the incident, he said. Based on suspicion, police began probing Devi's role. "The woman confessed to the crime today. She said she had killed her husband as he was having an illicit relationship with two women in the area," said the officer. He said Devi allegedly hit her husband with a paver block when he was sleeping after lunch on April 1. Police have booked a case against Devi and further investigation is underway.
