New Delhi, September 29: Theย Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Saturday clarified that though theย UIDAI websiteย uidai.gov.inย is accessibleย across theย globe, some of itsย web-based services will remain restricted for use only in India. Theseย web-based services includeย Resident Portal,ย eAadhaar Portal, Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) services. Reasoning out further, the Aadhaar issuing body UIDAI further added that theseย web-based services are Geo-Policy enabled and hence are not accessible from outside India.ย Aadhaar Verdict: List of Services for Which UIDAI Number Is Mandatory and for Those Itโ€™s Not.

This means, an individual will be able to access the UIDAI website from anywhere across the globe but the above-mentioned features will not be accessibleย from outside India due to policy guidelines. "UIDAI's web-based services like Resident Portal which isย resident.uidai.gov.in, eAadhaar Portal which isย eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, the SSUP portal which isย ssup.uidai.gov.in/web/guest/updaโ€ฆ etc. are Geo-Policy enabled and hence are not accessible from outside India", UIDAI mentioned in a tweet.ย Aadhaar Declared Constitutionally Valid by Supreme Court, But It's Not Mandatory to Link it With Bank Accounts, Mobile Numbers.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number for Indians based on their biometric and demographic data. It must be noted that the data is collected by the UIDAI, a statutory authority established in January 2009 by the Government of India. โ€˜Aadhaarโ€™ which means, in English, โ€˜foundationโ€™ or โ€˜baseโ€™, has become the most talked about expression in recent years, not only in India but in many other countries and international bodies.ย Highlights of Aadhaar Verdict.

The 12-digit biometric is described as a โ€˜Unique Identityโ€™ and the authority which enrols a person and at whose behest the Aadhaar Card is issued is known as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The Aadhaar data is stored, kept and processed only on the UIDAI servers within its data centre. According to a report by PTI, these servers have no linkages to the "outside world" through the Internet or any other means, including laptops and pen drives.
