The benchmark BSE Sensex slipped below the 34,000-mark and was down nearly 131 points in early trade on Monday. It extended Friday’s losses as investors reduced bets amid weak domestic sentiment. The Nifty 50 traded near 10400 in the morning trade.

The rupee fell further by 30 paise and ended on week- low level of 64.21 against the US dollar on Friday. Experts believe that this fall is due to the double hit of rising global crude prices and deteriorating trade deficit. This fall is the biggest in rupee since February 1. The rupee had fallen by 44 paise on February 1.

The Indian shares had ended lower on Friday as the Punjab National Bank stocks fell for third straight session after the scam came to light. It also affected the overall market sentiment for the week.
