Mumbai, April 06: Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, an MP from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has written a letter seeking to change the date of existing Children’s Day, which is currently celebrated on November 14. The letter, which seeks the Children’s Day date being shifted to December 26, saw 59 BJP MPs supporting by signing it.

Parvesh Verma has suggested that December 26, the day when the sons of Sikh Guru Gobind Singh achieved martyrdom, to be celebrated as the Children’s Day. The BJP MP has addressed the letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and suggested that November 24 can instead be celebrated as ‘Chacha Diwas’ – which is currently celebrated in memory of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

In his letter, Parvesh Verma questioned the celebration on November 14 as Children’s Day. He weighed in former PM Nehru’s fondness for children and the sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons’ for the country in his argument.

Parvesh Varma suggested that November 14, can instead be celebrated as ‘Chacha Diwas’ or ‘Uncle Day’, as India’s first PM was fondly called Chacha Nehru. He is looking for more support from other MPs on that letter that he has titled ‘Celebration of Bal Diwas in the name of Sahibzades on 26th December’.

If-at-all the government mulls to change the Children’s Day to December 26 from its original date November 14, it will have to issue a Gazette notification and bring in some changes in the legal framework.

November 14 is also the birth anniversary of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru. It is reported that Parvesh Sharma is mulling to submit an official letter to the Prime Minister Office (PMO).
