Jharkhand, April 09: In an extremely sad incident reported in Jharkhand, four infants have died since April 7, after being vaccinated for Japanese encephalitis and measles in Palamu district, one of the state’s most backward districts. As per reports, three of the victims died within eight hours of giving their vaccination dose,and five other infants are undergoing treatment at a government hospital.

Reportedly, the villagers complained that immediately after six to eight hours after vaccination, the infants fell seriously ill with high fever, accompanied with vomiting, while their eyes turned yellow. The condition of those little children immediately deteriorated.

The district administration has ordered a high level probe to look into the sudden deaths of so many infants. The Chief minister's office has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1 lakh for each of the bereaved families and free treatment for those children still in hospital and undergoing treatment.
