Surat, April 14: Amid an outrage across the nation over the rape of an 8-year-old girl in Jammu's Kathua, a similar incident was reported from Gujarat, where an 11-year-old was murdered before being raped for eight days.

Although the autopsy report was out on Saturday, the victim's body was found on April 6 near the Cricket Ground in Surat's Jiav Budiya Road.

As per the post-mortem conducted by the local civil hospital, the girl was  raped on multiple occasions for a span of eight days, with brutal injury marks on her body, including the private parts.

The autopsy report claims her organs were ruptured using "stick or some blunt object". Her death was caused due to the fatal blows incurred on several parts of the body.

The victim has so far been identified as an 11-year-old speech-impaired girl. The police is yet to trace her family members.

The investigation in the case is currently underway. No arrests have been made so far. The Surat police has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 to anyone who provides information about the deceased or the perpetrators of the crime.

The incident draws media attention at a time when protests erupted in several parts of the nation against the insecure environment for girls. The government has been targeted by the Opposition, along with the civil society, over the rape cases in Kathua and Unnao -- where an 18-year-old was allegedly gangraped by a local MLA and his accomplices.
