Security and Transaction Framework
Apple Pay utilises tokenisation technology via Mastercard and Visa to secure everyday purchases. When a user adds an eligible card to the Apple Wallet app, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and stored locally within the device's certified Secure Element chip. Actual credit card numbers are never stored on device hardware or Apple servers, nor are they shared with merchants during transactions, mitigating the risk of exposure or unauthorised data retention.
