Imphal, May 9: Two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were martyred in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Manipur on Wednesday afternoon. Two civilians were also injured in the explosion. The explosion took place near a BSF outpost close to the Koirengi Airfield in Imphal East district.

Speaking to Scroll, Imphal East Police chief, K Meghachandra said, "Two jawans succumbed to their injuries in the hospital while a woman and a shopkeeper has been injured in the attack".

None of the terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack. On Tuesday, two grenades were lobbed at the office of the military unit by unidentified men in Imphal. A jawan of Assam Rifles was injured in the attack.

On April 9, Four persons were also injured in a bomb blast near a power station at Thoubal Khunou in Thoubal district of Manipur. Last year in November, two Assam Rifles jawans were martyred in an IED blast in Chandel district of Manipur near the India-Myanmar border
