New York, December 7: A 24-year-old woman from Telangana’s Jangaon district died in a major fire at her home in the United States on Thursday, December 4. The deceased, Sahaja Reddy Udumala, had moved to the US in 2021 to pursue higher studies and was residing in Albany, New York. According to initial reports, the fire began in a nearby building and quickly spread to her residence. She was reportedly asleep when the fire broke out and was unable to escape.

In a post on X, the Consulate General of India, New York, said, "We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Ms Sahaja Reddy Udumala, an Indian national, who lost her life in a house fire incident in Albany. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time." Who Was Sahaja Udumala?

Sahaja had recently completed her Master's degree in Cyber Security in the US and had started working there only a few months ago, her uncle Udumala Bala, the Archbishop of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, told PTI. Her father is an IT professional, and her mother is a teacher. Bala requested the state government to assist in repatriating the mortal remains to India. The Telugu community in the US is actively supporting the family during this difficult time, he added.

Four adults were found inside the residence. They received immediate treatment from emergency medical personnel at the scene before being taken to a hospital, where they are currently being treated for serious injuries.
