Mumbai, June 4: Monsoon rains are expected to cover entire Karnataka and move towards Maharashtra this week. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and Skymet weather forecast, monsoon is likely to arrive in Panjim, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai this week between June 5 and June 7.

According to reports, monsoon is expected to move faster over Central and Western India as well as East and Northeast India. However, as per Skymet Weather, Monsoon is expected to move at a moderate speed while covering the North-Western region of the country.

Light to moderate rains were witnessed in Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Manipur and Mizoram over the past 24 hours. Spells of heavy rains were also witnessed over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and parts of Karnataka and Kerala.

Pre-monsoon showers were witnessed in Mumbai over the past two days and the spell is likely to continue, say weathermen. According to reports, the rain activity is likely to increase in the city starting Wednesday, June 6.

“Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall very likely to occur over south Peninsular India during week 1 (with increase in intensity in its second half) along with heavy rainfall at isolated places on many days of the week 1. Scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers along-with gusty/squally winds (during first half) are likely to occur over east India during many days of the 1st week,” said IMD.

Meanwhile, thunderstorm and light rains are predicted over parts of North India including Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand within 24 hours.
