Following an overwhelming public response to earlier releases, the Karnataka Postal Circle of India Post is launching a special sale of 8,000 philately passports on October 10 and 11 as part of National Postal Week. The initiative, announced by senior postal officials, provides stamp collectors and enthusiasts an exclusive opportunity to acquire the specialised collectables across designated head post offices in the state.

Sales Logistics and Guidelines

The two-day special sale will follow a strict distribution format, prioritising walk-in visitors. "The sale will be based on first-come, first-serve basis with physical tokens issued to visitors who stand in queues. There will be no online sale or advance booking for passports. Each passport costs INR 600 and will be available in Bengaluru GPO, Mangaluru, Mysuru, and Belagavi," said Swati Pandey, Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle, reports The Hindu. Karnataka Car Fire: Vehicle Catches Fire After Hitting Petrol Pump While Reversing in Attibele (Video).

Officials confirmed that vehicle parking will not be available inside the Bengaluru GPO premises on October 10 and 11 due to expected crowd volumes.

Distribution Schedule Across Districts

The allocation of the 8,000 philately passports is split across the two designated dates and four major postal hubs:

  • October 10: 1,500 passports will be available at the Bengaluru GPO, while 500 passports will be allotted to each of the centres in Mangaluru, Mysuru, and Belagavi.
  • October 11: The inventory increases to 2,000 passports at the Bengaluru GPO, with 1,000 passports available at each of the three regional district centres.

Background and Prior Demand

The release coincides with National Postal Week, which commenced on October 7. The current high-capacity rollout follows a successful pilot initiative in July, when around 1,000 passports were sold within a single day at the Bengaluru GPO alongside 500 units in each of the three participating districts.
