33 Degrees Celsius and a Hoodie! How Minute Details in CCTV Footage Helped Cops Solve Ketan Agarwal Murder Case
Pune Police cracked the Lohagad Fort murder case after spotting a suspect wearing a winter hoodie in 33-degree heat on CCTV. The footage exposed a conspiracy by the victim's fiancée, Siya, and her lover, Chetan, who allegedly pushed businessman Ketan Agarwal off a cliff after several failed attempts to call off a high-profile wedding.
A minute detail in CCTV footage - a man wearing a heavy winter hoodie in 33-degree Celsius heat - led investigators to unravel the alleged murder of 26-year-old real estate executive Ketan Agarwal at Lohagad Fort. While the incident on June 18 was initially reported by the victim's fiancée, 20-year-old Siya Goyal, as a tragic trekking accident, Pune Rural Police confirmed on Wednesday, June 24, that technical tracking and surveillance footage exposed a premeditated murder conspiracy executed by Goyal and her 22-year-old lover, Chetan Chaudhary. According to investigating officers, the breakthrough came during a comprehensive review of digital cameras situated near the historic fort's ticketing counters.
Footage captured Agarwal and Goyal walking together, closely shadowed by a man whose suspicious attire immediately raised administrative red flags given the prevailing summer conditions. Suspicious Hoodie in Summer Heat Triggered Deeper Probe
"While investigating the case, we stumbled upon certain circumstances surrounding the incident that raised suspicion and prompted a deeper probe," a police officer involved in the investigation stated. "We checked CCTV cameras installed at the ticket counter of the fort, where we spotted Ketan and Siya walking together," the officer added. Upon closer scrutiny, detectives noticed a male individual trailing a few meters behind the couple. "The man was wearing shorts and a hoodie. The front part of the hoodie was pulled so low that his face could not be seen. Additionally, the man was wearing a headset over the hoodie," the official explained. "In another footage clip, we noticed Siya suddenly looking back and, at the same time, the man in the hoodie suddenly sitting down," the officer added.
Investigators checked local meteorological logs for June 18 and verified the temperature was 33 degrees Celsius, prompting them to question why an ordinary trekker would wear heavy winter layering. Cross-referencing the physical stature and movements of the hooded figure with Chaudhary's social media profiles subsequently allowed the Local Crime Branch (LCB) to establish his identity.
History of Pre-Wedding Murder Attempts Disclosed
Further inquiries with Agarwal’s family members, including his sister Sanjana, revealed that Goyal had systematically pressured the victim to visit Lohagad Fort on multiple occasions before the fatal trek. Goyal had accompanied Agarwal to the location on May 31 and attempted a second trip on June 4, which was cancelled after Agarwal's mother intervened. According to police records, the suspects initially intended to "eliminate" Agarwal before the couple was scheduled to depart for an international pre-wedding photoshoot in Bali. The trip fell through after Agarwal’s passport mysteriously went missing.
Subsequently, during a trip to the fort on June 14, Goyal allegedly attempted to push Agarwal off the cliffside. "However, he managed to hold on to a bush," the investigating officer said. "When Ketan wondered why he had been pushed, she raised a false alarm about a snake and tried to make it appear that she had protected him."
Thousands of Intercepted Calls Establish Conspiracy
A detailed audit of digital communication data and Call Detail Records (CDR) revealed an extensive log between Goyal and Chaudhary. "We found thousands of calls exchanged between the two over an extended period, including several conversations lasting for hours," the officer noted, adding that the technical matrix pointed directly toward a synchronised plan. Following their detention by the Lonavala Rural Police, Chaudhary reportedly admitted to the crime under interrogation. When questioned by detectives as to why the couple did not simply elope, Chaudhary disclosed that Goyal was deeply opposed to calling off the high-profile engagement. "According to him, Siya was not in favour of calling off the engagement and eloping with Chetan, as she thought doing so would bring a bad name to her family," the official stated.
