Phone Seized During Prison Raid
The mobile phone was recovered during a four-to-five-hour search operation conducted by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) inside the high-security prison. The operation was part of a wider drive targeting high-profile inmates and other prisoners. Officials also recovered a pen drive and a charger from the cell. According to investigators cited by India Today, no other prohibited items were found during the search. The phone has been sent for detailed forensic examination. Investigators are examining its videos, images and other digital data to establish when the material was downloaded, its source and whether any of it has relevance to other ongoing proceedings.
Fresh FIR Registered
Following the recovery, authorities registered a fresh FIR in connection with the possession of prohibited electronic devices inside the prison. Another inmate, identified as Pratap Rai, who was lodged in the same prison, has also been named in the case. The investigation will also focus on how the phone, charger and pen drive entered the high-security facility and how the device allegedly remained undetected. Jail Officials Face Action
The incident has triggered disciplinary action within the prison administration. The Assistant Superintendent of the jail has been suspended, while a show-cause notice has been issued to the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison.
The recovery has renewed questions about security and the monitoring of inmates at Parappana Agrahara, particularly after previous controversies involving alleged privileges for high-profile prisoners.
Prajwal Revanna's Legal Position
Revanna is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted in August 2025 in a rape case. His conviction followed a case involving the sexual assault of a woman, with the court also finding him guilty of related offences including voyeurism and destruction of evidence.
The Karnataka High Court recently rejected his plea seeking suspension of his life sentence and interim bail, citing the seriousness of the offence and the pendency of multiple sexual abuse cases. His appeal against the conviction remains pending. Revanna has denied the allegations in the broader sexual-abuse cases and has previously claimed that videos linked to the controversy were morphed.
Forensic Probe Underway
Investigators are now awaiting the forensic findings from the seized phone. The examination is expected to establish the origin and timing of the digital material and determine whether additional violations occurred. The latest case has therefore widened scrutiny beyond Revanna himself to the functioning of security systems at one of Bengaluru’s high-security prisons.
